Path Of Exile: Kingsmarch Building Guide

Sep-09-2024 PST

Each season in Path of Exile brings new content for you to play through. This typically doesn't overhaul the entire story, but it definitely adds some unique aspects that you can play around with. The current season, Settlers of Kalguur, lets you upgrade the town of Kingsmarch, where the aforementioned settlers reside.

So, how does this town work? If you are partial to skipping through dialogue to get straight into the action, you may not fully know how to build up the town of Kingsmarch, but we've got you covered. In this guide, we will take a look at how you can upgrade this town and get a smooth workflow.

How To Visit Kingsmarch

Fortunately, it's very easy to get to Kingsmarch for the first time. After completing the short prologue on the beach, you can head into Lioneye's Watch, which is the first safe area. To the right of this area, you can find Johan the King's Hand.

By having a short conversation with him, you can then go to Kingsmarch for the first time.

Johan can also be added to your hideout, but talking to him isn't necessary to visit Kingsmarch. You can simply get here from any waypoint on the map.

What Resources Can You Gather?

There are a few different resources available in Kingsmarch, separated into three different sections around town.

Each area will first need to be unlocked with some resources.

Mining

To the left of town, you can find the Mining area, where the following items can be mined. They are found in the world, with nodes randomly appearing on maps.

Crimson Iron Ore

Orichalcum Ore

Petrified Amber Ore

Bismuth Ore

Iridium Ore

Smelting

Smelting is done with the resources you gather from mining, with the following resources available to craft. This is done from the rightmost area of Kingsmarch.

Crimson Iron Bar

Orichalcum Bar

Petrified Amber Bar

Bismuth Bar

Verisium Bar

Farming

Lastly, there are five crops that you can grow directly from the farm area, found to the north.

Wheat

Corn

Pumpkin

Orgourd

Blue Zanthimum

How To Hire Workers In Kingsmarch

The most important thing to do first in Kingsmarch is to hire some workers. This can be done from the main tavern area, where you find Faustus, Johan, and Raulf. By speaking with Raulf, you can see the workers that are available for hire.

Each worker will have a symbol next to their name, denoting their skills. Some workers will only have one symbol, such as a pickaxe for mining, but other workers may have more. It's up to you to decide who to hire but to pay them, you will need gold.

How To Get Gold

Gold is used to pay your workers and upgrade areas of Kingsmarch. Thankfully, gold is fairly easy to get; it drops from enemies that you defeat. Rather than stacking like a typical currency in your inventory, it will appear on the left-hand side of your potions.

By clearing a few maps, you should easily be able to get a decent amount of gold. With the gold in hand, you will need to first add it to the Kingsmarch treasury. From anywhere in Kingsmarch, you can press the round button with a scroll on it, which displays right above your skills.

This is essentially the management window. Here, you can see the amount of materials that you have, as well as how much money is in your treasury. Be sure to press the 'Add' button underneath the 'Treasury Gold' section to add more funds. Workers will draw their wages directly from this, and you'll also be able to see how long until the money runs out.

How To Manage Workers

With your workers hired and gold in your inventory, you can now assign some workers! Let's use the Mining area as an example. From the front of this area, you can see a board titled 'Mining Information'. Clicking on this will display how much ore is marked, and how many workers are gathering it.

Ore is marked when you clear the node on a map. This will remain marked until you hire workers to get the material.

At the top of this window, you will see a number count. Clicking on 'Manage Workers' will display all the workers currently assigned to mining, as well as any idle workers that can be added into the mix.

Each worker has a dropdown that displays the materials that can be mined. It's important to note that all mining ore types won't be available right away. You will first need to upgrade the mine itself, which can be done by clicking on the 'Mining Improvements' circle icon that appears near the mining area.

The other production areas don't require you to send workers out into the world to collect ore, but the process still works similarly. Click on the informational board, head to 'Manage Workers', and then assign workers to various positions.

Rather than one board for all the farming information, you will instead see one board for each plot available. These still work the same as the informational boards, but you can only grow one crop per plot.

How To Set Up Shipping At The Harbor

The harbor is found in the bottom portion of town. Like the other production stations, you will first need to unlock shipping. Once unlocked, you can speak with Tujen to set up a shipping route.

This will also require workers, but to start with, you will just need a crew of one.

By speaking with Tujen, you can see the crew, as well as all potential ports that you can send goods to. For example, we've hovered over Riben Fell, which is 140km away from Kingsmarch. This town currently favors Corn and Orichalcum, so sending these items would be a good idea.

From the lefthand side of the screen, you can press 'Select Port', and then set up what your shipment will be. In our case, we'll go ahead and send Corn and Orichalcum. The red bar on the right of the shipment will show the percentage risk of the crew running into danger.

What Is Runesmithing?

Near the Blacksmith (smelting area), you can find the Runesmithing area. This includes a Runesmithing Table; when interacting with it, you'll notice that it's pretty similar to a regular Crafting Bench. By using runes, you can apply modifiers to your gear.

Runes are a unique currency that is most easily obtained in the beginning by sending shipments to various ports. This means that the first shipping location you can send ships to will have a chance to yield some runes, which can be used once Runesmithing has been unlocked.

Disenchantment And Recombination

Right from the start, you'll be able to speak with Rog the Disenchanter, and Isla the Engineer, but to utilize their abilities, you will need to upgrade your town to level five. From here, you can then begin to unlock disenchanting (with Rog) and recombinations (with Isla).

By disenchanting, you can convert items into Thaumaturgic Dust. Like all other areas, you will need to have a worker assigned here. With this set, you can drag rare items into the menu that appears when speaking with Rog. After a set amount of time, you will receive the dust.

Recombination is done with Isla and her Recombinator machine. Here, you can combine items to make new ones that can be more powerful.

What Is the Kalguuran Map Device?

Lastly, we have the Kalguuran Map Device. If you are at this point in the season, then you probably know what maps are. These are essentially unique items that open portals to maps that can be cleared. With the Kalguuran Map Device, you can assign workers to run the maps for you.

Running maps can be fun, but if you have extra maps that are in your stash, then this is a good way to use them. The workers aren't actually 'running' the map though. The map will be completed within a set amount of time, with loot generated based on the map in question Of course, there is more information about Path of exile currency that you can learn!
