Path of Exile 2: The Vaal Jungle Walkthrough (Act Three)
Dec-12-2024 PSTIn Path of Exile 2, the Legacy of the Vaal quest continues as you venture deeper into the Vaal jungle. This section takes you through ancient Vaal ruins, encounters with poisonous enemies, and a few optional challenges that lead to valuable rewards. Here's a detailed walkthrough to guide you through the Vaal Jungle portion of the quest.
1. Explore the Jungle Ruins
Your first task in the Vaal Jungle is to explore the Jungle Ruins and search for a way toward the Matlan Waterways. The area is filled with dangerous enemies, many of which deal poison damage, so it's recommended to gear up with Chaos Resistance to mitigate the damage.
While you're here, you can explore the area and encounter several optional events:
Jungle Grave: Here, you'll find Servi's son. This optional quest rewards you with a rare belt for your effort. Afterward, Servi will offer a side quest called The Slithering Dead, which you can follow once you return to the encampment.
Mighty Silverfist: This optional boss is located in the Jungle Ruins. He wields a large stone column that he swings in wide, heavy slams. Be cautious of his vertical slam, which sends out a long tremor that causes devastating damage. Use the ruins around him to block his attacks as you circle the arena. Troubled Camp: You'll come across a rare monster besieging a camp of explorers. One of the explorers in the camp can trade with you, often offering rare items. Clear the area of the monster to loot the treasure.
After completing these optional encounters, you have two main paths to proceed:
Infested Barrens: Continue the main quest by heading toward the Matlan Waterways.
Venom Crypts: If you're interested in side quests, you can head into the Venom Crypts for The Slithering Dead quest.
2. Follow the Canals to the Matlan Waterways
Next, follow the dried riverbeds of the Infested Barrens toward the Matlan Waterways. Here, the enemies are tougher, and you'll encounter more dangerous variations of the creatures from the jungle:
Antlions: These tougher enemies have thicker skins, requiring more effort to defeat.
Termites: Swarms of termites pour out of hives, posing a threat due to their high numbers.
As you travel through this area, you'll find another Troubled Camp, which is being attacked by two rare monsters. Clear the monsters to loot the camp and trade with the explorer inside.
In this area, you'll also find the entrance to Azak Bog, where you can pick up the side quest Tribal Vengeance.
To continue the main quest, head to the canal mechanism, which will also lead you to an orb to summon Alva. Speak to Alva to learn about Soul Cores, ancient artifacts that power a device she's found. She tells you to ask Servi for more information on where to find one.
3. Search for the Ancient Machinarium
Return to the Ziggurat Encampment and speak to Servi about Soul Cores. Servi refers to them as Blood Crystals and tells you that they can be found in the Chimeral Wetlands. Travel back to the Infested Barrens to locate the entrance to this area.
4. Exploring the Chimeral Wetlands
In the Chimeral Wetlands, you'll encounter Ill-Fated Travelers who drop spores dealing Chaos damage over time. These can be especially challenging for melee fighters, so it's crucial to stay mobile. After clearing a group of enemies, avoid standing still to avoid the damage-over-time effect.
Within the Wetlands, there are three important points of interest to explore:
Ravaged Campsite: This area often contains a rare chest with valuable loot.
Temple of Chaos: Entering this temple will activate the waypoint, which will be useful for future travels.
Forest of Toxic Blooms: Here, you'll encounter a rare enemy to defeat for a special reward.
5. The Machinarium and Xyclucian, The Chimera
As you continue to explore the Chimeral Wetlands, you'll eventually come across the entrance to the Machinarium, an ancient Vaal structure. However, it's guarded by a fearsome Chimera named Xyclucian.
Xyclucian is a multi-elemental boss that attacks with fire, cold, lightning, and poison attacks. To defeat Xyclucian, pay attention to his movement and the pillars in the area. When he perches on top of a stone pillar, you can destroy the pillar to make it collapse, temporarily exposing the Chimera to damage.
