Path of Exile 2: How To Get Unique
Dec-16-2024 PSTUniques in Path of Exile 2 are a scarce, but exceptionally powerful, category of equipment guaranteed to have specific modifiers and stats. PoE 2 Unique items are some of the most powerful items in the game, but it's not easy to get them.
To get Uniques, Path of Exile 2 players essentially have three options: farming Rares and Bosses, Gambling, and using Orbs of Chance. The most reliable way to farm Uniques in Path of Exile 2 is to farm Rares and Bosses, but if you are targeting a specific Unique for your build, Gambling, and Orbs of Chance are your best bet thanks to the way Uniques can be generated via these mechanics.
Farm Rares & Bosses For Unique Drops
Technically, Unique items can drop from just about anything, including regular and magic enemies and as loot from Chests. But Rare and Boss enemies have a significantly higher chance to drop high-tier items like full PoE Currency consumables and Unique items.
Farming Rares and Bosses can be tricky business, especially if you want to get certain high-tier Uniques that will only drop from late-game and endgame enemies. One of the best places to farm Uniques in Path of Exile 2's early game is the Mausoleum of the Praetor in Act 1, which contains the Forgotten Riches area and a bunch of chests and Gold (under a set of stairs beneath a tomb in the area).
To farm Bosses and Rares, go to an area at least two or three levels below your own that has a Boss enemy you can repeatedly farm. Create a new Instance to refresh the layout and enemies in the zone, then head in to face the boss. Reset the Instance to run the zone again and again.
It's recommended not to go to a zone that's significantly lower than your level so you don't lose out on decent XP while farming Bosses, Path of Exile 2 players should aim for a comfortable level range that allows them to skip past normal enemies and take down the Boss with relative ease.
Gamble At The Town Gambling Vendor
The next best way to obtain Uniques in Path of Exile 2 is to spend Gold at the Gambling vendor in each town. Every hub area in each Act will have an NPC whose vendor inventory has all item types with stats/modifiers that are randomized upon purchase.
When you hover over this vendor's offerings, they will not display stats or modifiers - just the type of equipment, and whether it will have Armor, Evasion, or Energy Shield as a baseline.
There is a lot of risk with the Gambling system, as it costs a significant amount of Gold to buy items, and they're not guaranteed to be useful. However, there is a very small chance of getting Unique when gambling.
If you are targeting a specific Unique, Path of Exile 2 players should exclusively purchase gear from the Gambling vendor of that same type. For example, if you need Unique Gloves to enable your build, only buy Gloves from the vendor.
The chance to get unique from Gambling is exceptionally small, but if you have a lot of Gold to spare, it doesn't hurt to try.
Risk It With An Orb Of Chance
The last way players can farm Uniques in Path of Exile 2 is to use an Orb of Chance on a Normal item. The Orb of Chance is an extremely rare Currency item that will either upgrade a Normal item to a Unique quality or destroy it. This will turn the item into a Unique with all the associated Modifiers of that specific item, or instantly destroy it - there's no middle ground, and the chance to get a Unique is quite small.
You can collect Chance Shards as uncommon random drops from enemies in all Acts, while full Orbs of Chance tend to drop rarely from Magic, Rare, and Boss enemies in Act 3, Cruel difficulty, and beyond.
The chance is extremely small, but you may also find full Orbs of Chance in Acts 1 and 2 if you have luck on your side. They are much more common at higher difficulties, though still exceedingly rare.
The chance for a Normal item to be upgraded to a Unique is extremely small, but it's not uncommon. By the time you hit the endgame, you should have a few Orbs of Chance to try your luck. Like Gambling, if you are targeting a specific Unique, Path of Exile 2 players should only use Orbs of Chance on Normal PoE items of that gear type.
