Elden Ring: White Mask Varre Full Quest Walkthrough

Oct-19-2024 PST

White Mask Varre is a central NPC in Elden Ring, infamous for calling players "maidens" right after the game's introduction. But behind his insulting exterior lies a deeper purpose, as he serves Mohg, Lord of Blood. Completing Varre's questline grants access to Mohgwyn Palace, a hidden location with valuable loot, Elden Ring runes, and Mohg himself.

Below is a step-by-step guide to help you complete Varre's questline and unlock this secret area.

Step 1: Meet Varre at the First Steps Site of Grace

Varre is the first NPC you meet after the tutorial, just outside the Stranded Graveyard elevator.

Exhaust his dialogue to receive hints about your journey as a Tarnished. Expect some insults, including his notorious maiden remark.

After defeating Margit, the Fell Omen, returns to the First Steps Site of Grace and talks to Varre. He'll have a new dialogue for you.

Defeat Godrick the Grafted next, and upon returning to the First Steps, Varre will leave a message, guiding you to Liurnia's Rose Church.

Step 2: Meet Varre at the Rose Church in Liurnia

After defeating Godrick, head to Rose Church in Liurnia, which is west of the Academy Gate Town.

At the Rose Church, Varre asks for your opinion on the Two Fingers and their influence over the world.

Choose the dialogue option:

"Something didn't seem right."

Varre will reveal his suspicion of the Two Fingers and the Greater Will. He gives you three Festering Bloody Fingers to invade other players.

Step 3: Complete Three Invasions

Use the Festering Bloody Fingers to invade other players. You do not need to win the invasions, just complete three invasions successfully.

If you prefer to play offline, you can progress by invading certain NPCs, such as Magnus the Beast Claw in the Writheblood Ruins on the Altus Plateau.

Alternatively, the red letters from the Volcano Manor questline can also count as invasions.

Important:

Do not kill Rykard in Volcano Manor before finishing this step, as it will end the questline prematurely.

Step 4: Speak with Varre and Receive the Lord of Blood's Favor

After completing the three invasions, return to Varre at Rose Church.

He reveals his allegiance to Mohg, Lord of Blood, and offers to induct you into his service.

Accept the offer by choosing the option:

"Anoint Me."

You will receive the Lord of Blood's Favor, a cloth that must be soaked in the blood of a Finger Maiden.

Step 5: Soak the Lord of Blood's Favor in Maiden's Blood

There are three ways to find the maiden's blood for this step:

Chapel of Anticipation (Starting Area)

Return to the Chapel of Anticipation using the portal in the Four Belfries area in Liurnia.

Defeat the Grafted Scion and find the dead maiden inside the chapel to soak the favor.

Church of Inhibition (Liurnia of the Lakes)

Head to the Church of Inhibition northeast of Liurnia. Beware of Madness afflictions in this area.

You will find a dead maiden in the church, suitable for the favor.

Hyetta's Questline (Optional)

You can kill Hyetta, an NPC involved in the Frenzied Flame questline, for her blood.

This option is not recommended since completing her quest rewards you with the Frenzied Flame Seal.

Step 6: Return to Varre and Gain Access to Mohgwyn Palace

After soaking the Lord of Blood's Favor in a maiden's blood, return to Varre at Rose Church.

He will complete your induction into Mohg's service, giving you the Pureblood Knight's Medal.

Step 7: Use the Pureblood Knight's Medal to Reach Mohgwyn Palace

Use the Pureblood Knight's Medal from your inventory to teleport to Mohgwyn Palace, located above the Siofra River.

This area contains valuable Elden Ring runes and loot, including Sacred Tear upgrades and powerful weapons.

Step 8: Defeat Mohg, Lord of Blood (Optional)

At Mohgwyn Palace, you will eventually face Mohg, Lord of Blood, one of the game's hardest bosses.

Prepare for a tough fight, as Mohg uses blood magic and has devastating attacks.

Upon defeating Mohg, you gain access to his Great Rune and the Remembrance of the Blood Lord.

Rewards for Completing Varre's Questline

Pureblood Knight's Medal (grants access to Mohgwyn Palace).

Access to Mohg, Lord of Blood's Great Rune and the Remembrance of the Blood Lord.

An audience with one of the game's major demigods, opening up new lore insights and unique loot.

Conclusion

The White Mask Varre questline is essential if you want access to the Mohgwyn Palace area, which contains powerful Elden Ring items and one of the game's toughest bosses. Whether playing online or offline, the quest offers flexibility in how you approach invasions, ensuring that all players can complete it.
