Elden Ring: How to beat the Red Wolf of Radagon

Oct-31-2024 PST

Best Equipment Against the Red Wolves of Radagon

Armor

Equip the Carian Knight set, which you can find near the Church of the Cuckoo site of Grace. This armor provides excellent magic resistance while remaining light enough to avoid a heavy load penalty, allowing you to retain quick dodging capabilities.

If you're at your equip load limit, consider obtaining the Arsenal Charm from Nepheli Loux at the Roundtable Hold (if you met her at Stormveil Castle and helped in the Godrick fight). This talisman raises your maximum equipped load, allowing for better protection without affecting movement speed.

Talismans

Graven-School Talisman - For spellcasters, this boosts your sorceries. Find it behind a false wall near the Red Wolf's boss gate.

Spelldrake Talisman - Greatly reduces magic damage. Head to Earthbore Cave on the Weeping Peninsula to earn it from the dungeon boss.

Additional Elden Ring Items

Scholar's Shield Spell - This enchantment boosts shield strength, which is especially helpful if you plan on blocking the Red Wolf's attacks. Purchase it from Sellen at Waypoint Ruins in Limgrave.

Fire Grease - Apply this to your weapon for bonus fire damage against the Red Wolves. Find the recipe in a bandit camp northeast of Agheel Lake North in Limgrave.

Red Wolf of Radagon Attack Patterns and Tips

The Red Wolf's attacks fall into three main types:

Flame Sword:

It wields a fiery sword and can use several variations of slashes:

Single/Double Slash - Quick, linear attacks.

Spinning Slash - A two-hit combo.

Leaping Slash - Delayed, long-range strike.

Triple Combo - Two ground slashes, finishing with a fast leaping attack.

Tip: Each variation is unpredictable, so dodge as soon as you see the sword. Try to position yourself to the Wolf's side for openings.

Bite:

The Wolf lunges with one or two bites, sometimes adding a third delayed snap if you're still within range.

Tip: Don't rush in after the second bite; pause, watch for a third, and then dodge toward the Wolf for a counter-attack.

Magic Attacks:

Magic Missiles - The Wolf leaps sideways, summoning glyphs that fire at you after a delay.

Large Magic Blast - It jumps high and charges a stronger missile that can deal severe damage.

Tip: For the missiles, time your dodge just before they hit. When it jumps without the sword, brace for the large blast by dodging away or blocking with a shield boosted by Scholar's Shield.

General Combat Strategy

Melee Fighters: Stick to physical attacks; avoid enchantments like Scholar's Armament since the Wolf resists magic damage. If your main weapon deals magic damage, use the Ash of War system at a site of grace to temporarily switch to a physical damage type.

Spellcasters: Focus on defensive spells like Scholar's Shield and avoid offensive spells due to the Wolf's high magic resistance.

Fire Grease: Use this to add some extra fire damage to your attacks, which the Red Wolf is more vulnerable to.

Summoning Help

There are no NPC summons for this fight, but you can use Furlcalling Finger Remedy to summon other players or place your own summon sign with the Tarnished's Furled Finger to practice the fight while assisting others.

Summary

With these tactics and equipment tips, you'll soon have the Red Wolf of Radagon down for good. Take advantage of Raya Lucaria Academy's loot and resources, and be ready to face Rennala, Queen of the Full Moon, for your second Great Elden Ring Runes.
